MODULES: LEARNING OBJECTIVES (Draft)

MODULE #1:  CONNECTED LEARNING & EMPLOYABILITY

The learner will be able to:

  • Interpret the meaning of career readiness and employability in the 21st Century and construct principles to abide by in personal and professional goal setting.

  • Critique the general public and employer perspectives’ as to the pros and cons of a liberal arts curriculum in preparing new college graduates to be employable and competitive in the job market upon graduation.

  • Evaluate the level of importance of both hard skills and soft skills from employers’ perspectives as it pertains to personal career aspirations.

  • Develop SMART goals to address soft skill deficiencies required by an industry/occupation of interest that provides realistic opportunities to practice and improve soft skills.

MODULE #2: INTRO TO ACADEMIC & CAREER PLANNING

The learner will be able to:

  • Compare and contrast academic & career development theories/models/ framework and choose those which best apply to learner situation and can be utilized for lifelong learning.

  • Assess disciplinary insight perspectives from coursework/training/professional development and design mapping system to compile interdisciplinary connections to formulate a strategy for academic and career planning integration.

  • Apply the 6 steps of to a real-world current event/issue of interest.

MODULE #3: DISCOVERING MY ASSETS & PREPARING FOR COMPETITION

  • Define personal attributes associated with interests, values, skills, personality type, and workplace environment preferences.

  • Design an ePortfolio template based on acquired knowledge to represent  your personal brand which organizes and showcases goals, artifacts, education, employment history, competencies, networks, licenses/industry credentials, military, and career assessments.

 

MODULE #4: PERSONAL BRANDING, RELATIONSHIP BUILDING & RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

The learner will be able to:

  • Compose branding tenets and strategy to be achieved that differentiates the learner’s personal brand from others learners who are seeking or have obtained the same or similar degree.

  • Create a meaningful network by leveraging faculty, alumni, community connections and industry experts to advise in career planning and can lead to creating opportunities for potential internship and employment opportunities.

  •  Formulate a strategy with an established timeline that determines potential real-world applied experiences for the learner to build skills and gain relevant experience as it pertains to career goals.

MODULE #5: EVALUATING ACADEMIC CAREER & INDUSTRY PATHWAYS

The learner will be able to:

  • Identify and evaluate academic and career pathways, global competition, and technology as it pertains to personal attributes.

  • Compile research and draw conclusions about the top five criteria required to be competitive in the global workforce associated with learner’s chosen career path and industry.

MODULE #6: INVESTIGATING & APPLYING KNOWLEDGE FROM REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCES

The learner will be able to:

  • Assess various real-world case studies and propose solutions to achieve positive outcomes.

  • Determine learner’s potential workplace and/or employability challenges and formulate action steps to address challenges.

MODULE #7: DECISION-MAKING & STRATEGIES

The learner will be able to:

  • Explain preliminary choices for coursework and career pathway selection based on supporting evidence relative to personal attributes and global workforce trends.

  • Design a detailed action plan demonstrating informed decision-making and synthesizing personal attributes, branding, academic coursework, co-curricular activities, skills (both hard and soft), achievements and relevant experience in preparation for chosen career path and employability upon graduation.

MODULE #8: MY PERSONAL PATHWAY & WHY

The learner will be able to:

  • Produce a personalized brand prioritizing information gathered to differentiate yourself from other potential intern, employment or graduate school candidates.

  • Synthesize content within the categories of your ePortfolio; construct and defend well-reasoned arguments about academic, career and life choices while communicating them effectively to peers.

MODULE #9: FACULTY SUPPORT: CAREER INTEGRATION INTO COURSEWORK

The faculty member will be able to:

  • Design course incorporating module competencies to reflect existing course objectives and learner interests, relative to employability and lifelong learning goals to foster student success.

  • Adapt career and lifelong learning concepts and lesson activities from modules into syllabi and course learning outcomes.

  • Determine which module components (individual select lessons, one or more modules etc.) and to what level of integration (course, department curriculum college) modules will be utilized.

  • Compose comprehensive strategy to prevent content duplication for the learner within department and/or college.
