COMPETENCY MODEL CLEARINGHOUSE

  • In response to workforce challenges, the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration and industry partners collaborated to develop and maintain dynamic models of the foundation and technical competencies necessary in economically vital industries and sectors of the American economy. 

  • Goal of the effort is to promote an understanding of the skill sets and competencies essential to educate and train a globally competitive workforce.

  • The Competency Model Clearinghouse offers the Building Blocks for Competency Models Tool to guide you through the creation of a competency model.

  • Tool  enables one to create materials that assist businesses, educators, and workforce professionals in identifying the skills needed for success in 21st century careers.

Supplemental Resources & Interactive Tools

Resources are available to identify, develop and customize competency models for an individual's business, workforce development project or curriculum development.

Competencies and Career Clusters

The Career Clusters have greater emphasis on elements needed for curriculum performance objectives, measurement criteria, scope, and sequence of courses in a program of study, and the development of assessments.

 

The Industry Competency Models focus more on competencies needed for performance in the workplace and do not go into the same level of detail.
